A Good Night’s Sleep

Ah, sleep…. I love to sleep. I have been this way as long as I can remember. When I talk to others about sleeping 7 to 8 hours each night, they look at me like I am from another planet. I avoid describing my marathon sleeping sessions on the weekends, which can go for 10 to 12 hours, without a break.

So how do I do it? I know it might sound a little crazy, but I do the same thing every night to make sure I have a good night’s sleep. The dog and I both have our nightly bathroom routines. (His bathroom happens to be outside.) Then we start to slow things down and shut down the house. Once we are in bed we talk about our day and the things that we are grateful for. (I am doing the talking and he is listening, but I like to think that he would have some things that he is grateful for too.)

A couple of noteworthy items that seem to also help me get a good night sleep:

  • Only absorb positive messages prior to bedtime (no scary movies or Stephen King books!)
  • I do my best to go to bed around the same time every night
  • I don’t take naps

One thing that I have discovered, a good night’s sleep makes the day so much better. Whatever your sleep habits might be, I hope that you wake up refreshed and ready for your day.
