Listening to my Knee

I still remember the bright, sunny day I was snow skiing with my sister and brother-in-law. We decided to go on one last run and I hit an icy patch. Unfortunately my bindings didn’t release from my skis. After a few doctor visits, I was a candidate for ACL replacement (knee) surgery. That was about 20 years ago, but I remember it like it was just last year.

Injuries are like that – our bodies seem to have deep memories. When it rains or there is a change in weather, I can feel it in my knee. It will actually ache and even feel a little unsure about going upstairs or walking in high heels. It gently reminds me to take care of myself and to listen to my body.

Sometimes I say to trust your gut. But I also think that you can trust your bones. They too can tell you so much about yourself, your intuition, and maybe even the weather.
