Live 2017 Like You Mean It

I’m not sure why I’ve been finding it unsettling to settle into 2017. I continue to write “2016” on checks and documents, and find myself forgetting what day of the week it is (and even showed up one day early for an appointment last week). Yikes!

What I am hoping is that 2017’s theme will be declutterization, along with not spending $$ on stuff. In alignment with these aims, my current project is to sew a comforter cover from hand-me-downs. The ‘free’ components are a quilt-top which was gifted to me a few years back and a nearly-new king-size sheet that a friend gave me last weekend (incompatible with her new Tempur-Pedic mattress). The colors are a perfect match.

I wanted to take a picture of the finished product for this post, but that’s not going to happen . . . Because, I’m having a hard time getting the two items to join-up perfectly and have spent hours and hours measuring/pinning/re-arranging/re-measuring/re-pinning. So far only the bottom seam is sewn together, and I’m beginning to think I may have to rip out even those stitches and go back to square one. I just Googled “back to square one” to make sure I’m using proper wordage — yes, it’s a phrase that means “to go back to the beginning, after a dead-end or failure,” so it perfectly describes where I am in January 2017.

Regardless of setbacks, I’m persevering with my high hopes and enthusiasm for this fantastic New Year. My unquantifiable goals are to make 2017 the best year yet, live life to the max, and continue to be on the lookout for freebies. For some reason, I also like this impossible-to-fathom aphorism: Live 2017 like you mean it!
