Bygone Summer Favorites

With Labor Day gone, the kids back in school and stores stocking Halloween decor we can call summer really over. The temperatures might still be high but the mindset of relaxing, vacations, easy-reads, beach time and wearing white has passed. So for one last hurrah we’re sharing our favorites of the past few months – what made our summers that much better.

If a good summer is graded by how many barbecues one went to then my summer was off the charts – at least compared to previous ones! The Recreation Therapy department I volunteer with at the VA coordinates with local organizations to come and put out a good spread for the veterans. And that’s been one of my favorite activities to be a part of helping set up, serve, deliver and clean up. It’s a good time.

In the beauty area I’ve gotten a fair bit of use out of a lip tint from hemp organics. Never being trained in the art of makeup, and having sensitive eyes that water from any nearby product, I’m pretty skittish in beauty aisles with all their offerings. So, I keep to the very basics and swipe on some berry tint, possibly colored with iron oxides, carmine and mica, and feel happy with the world.

It was the summer of the smoothie in these here parts, and I’ve been having a blast blending up my breakfast. In total, I’ve made 70 smoothies – with no signs of stopping yet. The best part of a smoothie is how healthy it makes me feel as I limit the ingredients to: fruit, almond milk and superfoods like cacao powder, chia and hemp hearts. It’s a lovely way to start the day. P.S. I’ll miss you, cheap mangoes…

In the creative department, my summer would not have been possible without a set of Caran D’Ache neocolor aquarelles I nabbed from a friend, love that lady. It’s true what they say about experimentation getting a girl out of a rut – put some new to her products in her paws and let her play.

This artpage created using the aquarelles and inspired by a mango smoothie has 2 summer favorites in one go.
