Every once in awhile I fall off the exercise wagon. Sometimes it is a health excuse – I am just not feeling well, so I just don’t go to the gym. Other times I go on vacation and when I return I forget to go back to the gym. Whatever the reason is, weeks can go by and my positive momentum that I had earlier can come to a screeching halt.
To get back into the swing of things, here are a few things that have helped me get moving again:
- I start each day recognizing 3 things that I am grateful for, even if it is the opportunity to regain my fitness.
- I focus on building a habit and working the gym back into my schedule; it is ok if I go and just have tea (not workout), as putting on the clothes and getting there is a step in the right direction.
- As the habit starts to build, I make sure to have fun; I keep myself engaged in high energy classes that are filled with laughter and positive music.
As I navigate my way through my exercise journey I am mindful of all the wonderful friends I have met along the way. It is that human connection that makes the journey so worthwhile. Friends motivate us, lift us up when we are down, and celebrate our wins. Wherever you are on your exercise wagon, I wish you lots of exercise friends along the way.
